PORTUGUESE TILE

Hand-painted tile is one of the most traditional and distinctive forms of art in Portugal. Its history dates back to the 15th century, when the Arabs brought the technique of glazed ceramics to the country. Since then, tiles have been widely used in Portuguese architecture, from decorating palaces and churches to decorating the facades of residential buildings.
The art of traditional portuguese tiles is characterized by its rich color palette, geometric patterns and themes inspired by nature, Portuguese history and culture. Some of the main production centers for tiles include Lisbon, Porto, Aveiro and Coimbra.
Today, hand-painted tile in Portugal continues to be a popular art form, being enjoyed by locals and tourists visiting the country, often used to adorn interiors and exteriors of buildings, as well as to create decorative and collectible pieces.
